Up date my "Houzz"

Recently I was approached by one of the executives from Houzz.com. She had a similar experience that so many of my other clients have recently had. " I woke up one morning and my house was outdated".

There has been such a shift in design that to many seemed to have appeared overnight. not too long ago we were designing with reds and golds and silks and heavy tapestries and many many many layers ... It was kind of like that whole "I live in a Mediterranean mansion" look. Heavy, stuffy, over done. Now in design the look is fresh and clean and more easy-going.... It's that whole simple elegance vibe.

The goal for this project was to create a whole new look without spending a lot of money and undergoing construction.
By simply giving the existing kitchen a fresh coat of white lacquer paint, updating the hardware with more transitional chrome polls, updating the lighting, and throwing in some current accessories there has been a complete transformation.

Of course this is a can of worms that I always warn my clients about. All of a sudden you have this gorgeous updated room but it makes no sense with the rest of your house!

I'm happy to report that with the addition of a fresh coat of warm taupe gray paint, and by incorporating some minor accessories, pillows, rugs, lighting, the entire space looks revived and updated!!!

Homesick for the Hamptons

One of my oldest and dearest clients owns a home here in Southern California and also one in the Hamptons. I've been fortunate to be a part of designing both properties. My clients ultimate dream will be to sell her Southern California home and retire in the Hamptons once her children are all graduated from school. She recently came to me and expressed that she really wanted to sprinkle a little bit of the Hamptons here in her southern California home just to tide her over until she could move there permanently.

We redid her kitchen (which was the only original part of this home that had not been touched) , repainted walls with Lighter fresher colors, updated her casings and moldings, added grass cloth wallpaper, and lots of new fun fabrics and rugs. The end result was a fresh clean Hampton/coastal vibe...just what the doctor ordered!
